Book trailers are the latest rage on the internet and many media centers today. A book trailer is like a movie trailer, but uses still pictures to peak the interest of readers and text to tell simple events or describe characters in the story. Some book trailers will use movie narration. It can be done in any format. What an option instead of the traditional book report!
Things You Will Need: Still images that come to mind that remind you of the book.
Music from a free public domain.
Movie editing program that is free to download.
Instructions:
Make a storyboard of the events that will highlight your book trailer.
Find pictures that you want to use to tell the story of your book. Use free public domain photos or some you have taken yourself for this
project or other past projects, but make sure you have permission to use the still pictures if they belong to someone else. If other students are in the pictures make sure they have signed a release form to use on the internet.
Open your Movie Editor. If you have a PC, Windows Movie is the program you will use. I have a Mac so I will use iMovie for this particular example.
Place the pictures in the order you want them to go into the iMovie storyboard to create your book trailer.
Now it is time to add text to the pictures. Click on the picture and where you want the words to be placed. The program will put the words over the picture. You will have to go to the timeline and make adjustments to the time allotted for each image to create a dramatic effect.
Now add music to your book trailer. Some book trailers will put the music first, but this of course is optional. Once again, make sure to use a free public domain or your own music for any project, because if you use music with a copyright, even if it is for noncommercial use, you could be sued. Make sure to follow the Fair Use and Copyrighted Material laws.
